Antecedents for World Currency 16th C.
Gasparo SCARUFFI (1519-1584) published his theoretical treatise on money, Alitinonfo, in 1582.
The strange title derives from the Greek, signifying “true light,” which he wanted to spread on the subject of money.
Scaruffi advocated a universal mint and a uniform currency throughout Europe based on bimetallism, “as if the world were one city and one monarchy.”
